The Langtang Valley Trek is Nepal's closest major trekking destination to Kathmandu — just a few hours' drive to the trailhead — yet it feels deeply remote. The valley climbs from subtropical forest through bamboo stands to the high meadows below the Langtang Lirung glacier, culminating at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m) with optional ascents of Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) or Tserko Ri (4,984 m) for panoramic high-altitude views.

Before You Go

Important Notes

One-horned rhinoceros
  • Permits: Langtang National Park entry + TIMS — arranged by TempleFront.
  • Best seasons: March–May and October–November.
  • The valley was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake; rebuilt teahouses operate throughout. The rebuilt Langtang Village is a tribute to community resilience.
  • Optional Tserko Ri ascent (4,984 m) is highly recommended for the panoramic views.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance covering trekking to 5,000 m and emergency helicopter evacuation is mandatory.
  • Fitness: a moderate trek suitable for first-timers in good health — walking 5–6 hours a day for up to a week, with one optional high viewpoint day above 4,700 m.
  • Acclimatisation: although shorter than the big circuits, Kyanjin sits at 3,870 m and the viewpoints near 5,000 m. Ascend the optional peaks slowly and tell your guide of any headache or nausea.
  • Connectivity & money: mobile signal and teahouse Wi-Fi are patchy beyond Lama Hotel. Carry cash in Nepali rupees — there are no ATMs past Syabrubesi.

Frequently Asked

Frequently Asked Questions

Tiger in the foliage
Is this a private trek?

Yes — every TempleFront trek is guided exclusively for your group. We never combine you with other trekkers.

What is included in the price?

All required permits, a licensed English-speaking guide, porters, teahouse accommodation, and breakfast and dinner throughout. Lunches are on your own account at teahouses en route.

How far is Langtang from Kathmandu?

The trailhead at Syabrubesi is about 7–8 hours by road from Kathmandu. This makes Langtang the closest major trekking region to the capital — you can be deep in the mountains within a day of arriving. No flight needed.

How has the valley recovered from the 2015 earthquake?

The 2015 earthquake caused a massive landslide that destroyed much of Langtang Village. The community has rebuilt with new teahouses and a memorial stupa. Your visit directly supports the local economy. The trails, scenery, and culture are as magnificent as ever.

What about altitude sickness?

The trek reaches 3,870 m at Kyanjin Gompa, with optional ascents to 4,984 m. The itinerary is well-paced with acclimatisation built in. Consult your doctor about altitude medication. Inform your guide of any symptoms.

What gear do I need?

Sturdy trekking boots, layers for cold nights at Kyanjin, waterproof shell, trekking poles, and sun protection. A sleeping bag rated to -5°C is recommended. A full kit list is provided on booking.

What are the teahouses like?

Good quality in the lower valley (Syabrubesi, Lama Hotel); simpler but comfortable at Langtang Village and Kyanjin Gompa. Twin rooms with shared facilities throughout.

How do I confirm a booking?

Send us a WhatsApp or email enquiry. We respond same day with a detailed quote. A deposit secures your dates.
