A focused darshan journey to Pashupatinath, the most sacred temple of Lord Shiva and one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines. For more than fifteen centuries pilgrims have come to the banks of the holy Bagmati to seek the blessings of Pashupati, lord of all living beings. Many Hindu families consider darshan here essential before undertaking the Char Dham yatra. As a Kathmandu family who have guided pilgrims for three decades, we arrange unhurried morning darshan, a place at the evening Bagmati Aarti, optional puja, and a quiet visit to the adjacent Guhyeshwari Shaktipeeth — with comfortable transport and Satvik meals throughout.

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m) & evening Bagmati Aarti

1,400 m

Welcome at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to your hotel. In the late afternoon we take you to Pashupatinath for the evening Bagmati Aarti — the most spiritually charged moment of the day, when lamps, bells and chanting fill the riverbank. Non-Hindu guests join from the eastern terraces with a clear view of the rite.

Overnight: Kathmandu

Important Notes

  • Indian nationals do not require a visa for Nepal — a valid passport, voter ID card, or other government photo ID is accepted at zero cost.
  • Other nationalities receive a Nepal visa on arrival (USD 30 for 15 days / USD 50 for 30 days); bring two passport photos.
  • Only Hindus may enter the inner sanctum of Pashupatinath. Non-Hindu guests are warmly welcome in the outer courtyards and at the riverside Aarti.
  • Best time: year-round. Maha Shivaratri (February/March) is the most auspicious — book early, as Kathmandu fills with pilgrims.
  • Suitable for elderly pilgrims: no trekking, flat access and comfortable private transport throughout.
  • Modest dress is required for darshan (shoulders and knees covered); leather items are removed at the temple.
  • Personal pujas can be arranged with advance notice — tell us at the time of booking.

Frequently Asked

Frequently Asked Questions

Tiger in the foliage
Do I need a visa, and is this suitable for my elderly parents?

Indian nationals need no visa — a passport or voter ID is enough, at no cost. The tour involves no trekking, only short flat walks, with private vehicles door to door, so it is very comfortable for elderly pilgrims.

I am not Hindu — can I still join?

Yes. Only the inner sanctum is reserved for Hindus, but the outer courtyards, the cremation ghats viewpoint and the evening Bagmati Aarti are open to everyone, and your guide explains the rituals throughout.

Can you arrange a specific puja such as Rudrabhishek?

Yes. With advance notice our temple liaison arranges Rudrabhishek, Satyanarayan Katha, Shraddha and other pujas. Puja material and the priest’s dakshina are paid directly and are not part of the package price.

Will the food be vegetarian and Indian-style?

Yes. We arrange pure-vegetarian Satvik meals on request, including familiar Indian-style preparations. Please tell us your dietary needs when booking.

When is the best time to visit for darshan?

Pashupatinath welcomes pilgrims year-round. The evening Aarti is the most powerful daily darshan, and Maha Shivaratri (February/March) is the holiest occasion — book well ahead as the temple is very busy.

How large is the group?

Every TempleFront itinerary is private and run exclusively for your family or group — we never combine you with strangers.
